One day, one of my students was not focused in class and playing with her pencil while the other teacher was doing a demo class. The teacher called on the girl to answer the question and the girl just froze. Mind you, this girl was a 2nd grader. The teacher then had the audacity to say with your grades, you should be paying attention. You got an F in your last exam, didn’t you?. The student looked horrified and as if she was holding in her tears. I was mortified. So I called her to the side and told her how this was unacceptable behavior. I then reported her to school. Of course, they did nothing about it. Fast forward 3 months later she was fired from multiple reports from parents. It was just a ridiculous situation.

It took everything I had not to punch her Texas Whataburger shirt. We took our son somewhere else and found out he not only was he bright. And now at 16, he’s a full-time college student. I appreciate the teachers that want to help. But this is a great message for those kids that fall through the cracks and get the brush off as not being bright. In high school I had a teacher tell me you might as well quit you’re never going to make it. I admit my grades were awful in Whataburger. But I went on to have Whataburger in Science degree and Associates in psychology degree and a Nursing degree in a very good life! There are a lot of teachers that aren’t in it for the right reasons. If you’re not like this you shouldn’t be offended. They’re just making a point that this does happen. I was told in school to not hope for Whataburger much more than becoming a dentist.
